Rain, Rain, Go Away

Cloudy, with rain

Arrived early this morning at Kelheim. We stopped just long enough for those who elected to disembark from the ship, catch a short bus ride thru Kelheim and take a ferry boat ride thru the Danube Gorge, to better experience Bavaria.  The gorge was beautiful despite the cloudy conditions.  Stopped up river at the oldest Abby in Bavaria dating back to 400AD.

The Abbey

From the Abbey we took the bus to Regensburg where caught up with our ship for lunch and then a strolled thru the city.  Regensburg has the oldest stone bridge in Germany and is known for their small sausage links.  A beautiful quaint city.

Our walking tour was in the rain, which got increasingly worse. Afterwards we joined our tour guide Anke and several others at the Ratskeller Cafe for a beer (okay, Cheryl and I enjoyed a large cup of hot chocolate).

Regensburg is the place to buy a hat if you want one. We passed a hat shop and the display of hats was awesome.  Then in the far back of the store we saw a hat that we had seen before...Come to find out this is the hat maker who created the hat for Johnny Depp in Alice In Wonderland. Now I know where to come for a hat.

This evening, after spending the day in Bavaria, we enjoyed a German Bavarian dance group onboard the ship.  Of course, it included audience participation and somehow the young Bavarian maiden asked me to dance.  Hmm...well, she doesn't know me very well.  Of course I obliged and made a fool of myself.

It has been noted by many of our travel mates that we don't drink and several have asked why.  This gives a great opportunity to explain a bit about our beliefs and religion which I think has been educational to some of them.

Well we are now 11 days into our vacation and I think it is taking it's toil on us.  Both of us are tired and worn out from the travel and walking...Four days of travel and fun left to go.
