TECHNOLOGY FANTASY LAND

Okay after repeated badgering of family members telling me how deliquent I am on my blog, I have finally formulated something worth sharing.

For the last several months, I have been exploring the wide world of computer technology. First, we discovered a virus had intruded into our comupter system. After several weeks of frustrating pop ups and slow computer responses, I was able to bring in a "for hired geek" who loaded up my hard drive with several programs and we were able to stomp the virus. Triumphant at last, but wait, the computer is still acting up and still not responding the way it should and what happened to my internet service? Hmmm, several attempts later and another visit by the "for hired geek" we discovered that my security system was messed up and after deleting my security sytem and re-installing we were back into high speed technology land.

Now of course, my children and wife, believe I'm a bit old fashion. So at Christmas, I was given a "webcam" and then my wife went out and bought me a 3-in-1 printer. Wow, I can see myself on my own computer screen and my 3-in-1 will print, scan, and even fax. I was born to ride on the Highway of Technology. Look out here I come!

Now I know that if one doesn't stay on top of technology they will get left behind. And with my family spreading abroad what better way to communicate with them then with the high tech gadgets that we have in place like a webcam. So yesterday, I went to work installing all of my new updated equipment looking forward to communicating and seeing everyone whom I might be communicating with. Yea, Right!

First, the 3-1 printer went fairly well until I got to the part that indicated you have to choose how you want to set up the fax. Are you connecting into a phone line or a computer? Are you connecting into a answering machine? Choose what configuration you want? Hmmm, I don't know. If I choose my computer what's this thing about having to put filters on all of the equipment tied into the system. Hm...!

Well let's skip the fax for now and hook up the webcam. Look I can see myself, yea! Call Jenny & Philip let's video chat. I have to add what buddy to my list? Hm can't get it to work, let's try Rachel and John. Oh, what's that my computer is ringing like a phone. Something is happening here... "your video chat session has ended." What it didn't even start! UGH! Okay, deep breath and let's try and solve the problem for the next hour. Check your connections, yup. Check all of your setttings, yup. Turn off your security settings to see if it works, yup, that's a bright idea. Well needless to say, I have a webcam, I can see myself on my computer screen and take pictures of myself, I can even send IM's (instant messages for those not computer literate). I think that instead of exploring the technology highway, I have been run over by the technology highway!

Well the whole reason for trying to sent up all of these high tech gadgets is to share great moments with my family. Rachel called yesterday, and said that Gabe looked at a picture of me and said Papa and then gave the famous "Papa Sign" Way to go Gabe!

Despite all of my fancy high tech equipment I still figured out a way to let Gabe know...

"Right Back At YOU!
Love PAPA
