Day Five: Florence and the Renaissance

Today we traveled east back into the city of Florence, the place where the renaissance really began. Walking through the town center you could feel the spirits of those who made such an impact on the world today. Such men as Michelangelo, da Vinci, and Dante. The buildings portrayed the new city and the spirit that was born here in Florence.

We saw great structures and works of art such as the Santa Marie Duomo, the bell tower and the baptistery. On the baptistery we observed the famous brass doors with 9 panels depicting stories from the bible. We saw the famous marble statues of Michelangelo, and others. In the Accademia we saw the real statue of David. The perfectly portioned statue of the young man as he prepares to battle Goliath was breathtaking. The details of how Michelangelo depicted the nude David became the model for all to follow as the Renaissance began. Other wonderful works of marble were also observed.

How coudl I say No?
We finished the day in Florence shopping of course. Cheryl will never forget Florence as she now sports a new genuine Italian Leather jacket. All I can say is she is one hot mama with the jacket on. Okay even without the jacket she’s smoking hot.

Our day concluded with a evening attending a concert by two opera singers. When in Italy you have to love the opera as the Italians do. It was a great performance and now it’s off to bed for tomorrow comes early as we start another adventure.
