Yes, today we utilized about every mode of transportation we could, including our own two feet. Cinque Terre is a quintet of villages clinging to a bit of rugged coastline between Genoa and Pisa. First, it was an hour and half bus ride to the train station in LaSpezia. Next, we caught the train to Riomagglore, our first small village along the coast line. We then walked the “Trail of Love” to Manarola where we caught the next train to Corniglia. Here we took a fast and small bus/shuttle to the top of the mountain and walked the village streets for about ten minutes before riding back down the mountain on the shuttle and catching the next train. Of course we could have walked to the village but when we realized that there were over 400 steps to climb to reach the village …well time just wouldn’t allow us to walk those beautiful steps. The train from Corniglia took us to the favorite village where we had lunch on the bay, Vernazza. Here we had a couple of hours to enjoy the relaxing atmosphere and surroundings. Finally, it was back on the train to Monterosso, the only resort town in the Cinque Terre and then we caught a boat back to La Spezia. It was a place where we could go back to and enjoy the scenery and no I’m not talking about the nude beaches. Yes, on the boat ride our hostess gratefully pointed out where the two or three nude beaches where and the ship captain even startled some sun bathers with his ship horn which delighted the passengers. No, it was a beautiful and relaxing adventure that we could come back and spend some time even more.
